Banged Up Boys

It's been a rough week for our little boys...
On Tuesday (10th May) Duncan, Ewan and I were walking to Asda to buy some groceries. Duncan kicked his football (soccer ball) as we went and found things to climb on along the way. He climbed up some step-like landscaping things (that is the technical term) and fell off onto the concrete side, not the grassy side, of course. Sod's Law, as they say (which is the same as Murphy's Law). Poor little dude banged his head pretty hard and was gushing blood from his forehead. We were really close to the local surgery (doctor's office), so with the two of us covered in blood and pushing Ewan along in the buggy we stopped in and got checked out by a nurse and doctor who happened to still be in the building. Joe was on his way home from the office, so met us there and they steri-stripped Duncan's head and told us to go to the Children's A&E (ER) where he might get stitches.

Some quick texting while we walked home had Chris show up to take care of Ewan so that both Joe and I could go to the hospital with Duncan while Ewan got fed and put to bed. (Thanks again, Chris!) In the end, the doctors at A&E said that as much as possible they avoid stitches in kids, so they just cleaned the wound again and re-applied the steri-strips making sure the gash in his forehead was closed tightly. He was a little trooper and told us "Duncan's fine, Mommy. No hurts, Daddy." Bless him! So here are some photos of Duncan with his "Special Plasters" (Band-aids) that we got from the doctor:

He's also not allowed to get them wet for 5 days, which means a very dirty little boy will be having a bath on Sunday!

And with his "goggles" on now.

OK, Ewan's turn....

On a Wednesday Ewan and Duncan and Joe go to American Playgroup (that's what I call it anyway) which is a bunch of University students' families getting together once a week at different people's houses to let the kids play, chat, and have some lunch. This past Wednesday (11th May) playgroup was at the Malone's house and the weather was nice, so the kids were outside. There are some concrete stairs going down from the top part of the back garden (yard) to the bottom part, and I think you see where this story is going.... His tumble down the stairs was so quick there was no time to catch him.
So here he is with his scraped up little nose:

Ouch.

Poor little boys are all banged up, but they both just LOVE being outside, climbing and playing. This isn't the first time they've scratched/cut/bruised their little faces, and I'm sure it isn't the last time, either, so I'm really thankful for the fact that, in Joe's words, "Bumbles bounce!"

I think these boys of yours are paving a future of contact sports! They look super tough...kind of like those rugby guys. I'm sure it was rougher on mommy and daddy then the little ones. I do not look forward to the cuts, bumps, bruises, and scrapes that come along with learning how to actively explore! Duncs and Ewan are going to continue to be the best of brothers!
